WHY PUZZLES?
I started cutting jigsaw puzzles from large calendar pages glued to 1/4″ thick cheap plywood in 1999. These were for my grandmother so she could more easily pick up the pieces than she could with store bought cardboard puzzles. At the time, I had an old Craftsman jigsaw that was woefully inadequate. I soon obtained a scroll saw attachment for my Shopsmith and then the fun began!
I started making more puzzles for other family members and realized how much fun it was with a good saw. I really do not know how many puzzles I have made, as I did not keep track in the beginning.
THE DREAM
For years I wanted to have my own woodworking business. I completed 20 years in the military and started a second career. During that time, I cut puzzles in my limited free time. Frustrated with the bureaucracy of large organizations, I retired a little early. Now I have more time to dedicate to making fun and interesting puzzles and bring in some supplemental income with my business. I have several other products that I will introduce on this site as time passes. Besides taking your photo and turning it into a jigsaw puzzle, I can also make a matching profile clock – think gifts for spouse, parents, and parents-in-law.
THE NAME
Our house is adjacent to a seasonal wetland. In the spring, thousands (millions?) of frogs are singing to one another. The sound at night can almost be deafening.
One of the summers that my wife was assisting at our church’s summer vacation bible school, the theme was “Fully Rely on God”, or FROG. There were five of us in our house, and the name Five Frogs has stuck in my head ever since.
Now, it is the name of my business!
